Which Color Car is the Safest to Drive?

A study has revealed that the chances of having an accident can depend on the color car you drive.

It has often be thought that white is the safest color for a car and according to the research that is indeed the case. If you drive a black vehicle, you have a 12% higher risk of being involved in an accident which leads to death or injury than if you were in a white car.

The next least safe colors after black are silver and grey and the next safest colors after white are bright colors like red and yellow.

The main reason that the lighter and brighter colors are safest is not because you can see them better at night but because they are easier to see against the dark color of the roadways.

Man Hit by Car in Hit and Run

Early on Friday morning, January 1, a man was hit by a car in a hit and run and is now critical.

According to Welasco police, the incident happened at around 3 a.m. on the Expressway 83. Anthony Nuncio aged 27 and of San Benito was driving fast westbound in a grey Buick south on Bridge Avenue. He then ran a stop sign which was at the bridge and frontage road. He went through the median onto the expressway and hit the concrete barrier. He then got out of his car and was trying to cross the highway when he was hit.

According to witnesses they think he was hit by a Lincoln. Both the Lincoln and the car behind, an F 250 stopped and walked around presumably to see what they hit. It is not known if they discovered the victim who was lying on the grass, but they then returned to their vehicles and drove away.

Nuncio was taken to McAllen Medical Center in a critical condition and had surgery on his left leg and his hip.

How to Stay Safe on a Road Trip

Americans love going on road trips but there are a few things you should bear in mind to ensure you have a safe and fun journey.

First, however tempting it is, do not put your feet up on the dashboard if you are a passenger or when you are using cruise control. It may feel more comfortable, but if you have a collision, the airbag could inflate at up to 220 miles per hour which would deliver so much force that knees would be slammed into your face or chest and deliver appalling injuries even including brain damage.

Second, when you are on a long trip it is tempting to just keep on going, but if you become tired then stop. The night before the journey ensure the driver has seven to nine hours of good sleep as according to the NHTSA more than 100,000 crashes every year are due to tired drivers and that leads to 71,000 injuries and over 1,500 fatalities.

Travelling with a Pet

If you are travelling with a pet, it should travel in the rear of the vehicle, not only so you are not distracted but also because air bags may cause injury to your pet.

Dogs shouldn’t be allowed to roam around the vehicle and can be the cause of an accident if left unrestrained. The safest thing for your dog is to travel in a crate that has been anchored to the vehicle using a seatbelt or other secure means. Dog restraints and seat belts are also available but have not reliably been shown to protect dogs in a crash. Cats should only travel in a carrier for their safety and yours. It is important to restrain carriers so that they don’t move about or fall and hurt your cat and this can be easily done by securing a seat belt around the carrier.

Don’t let your dog put his head out of window. Although some dogs love this, they can be injured by debris or get sick by having cold air forced in to their lungs.

Stop frequently to allow your pet exercise and to go to the bathroom and never leave your pet alone in the vehicle. Even with the windows slightly open it doesn’t take long for the temperature inside the vehicle to climb to such an extent that your pet could suffer irreversible organ damage or even death.

If at all possible share the driving and pet caring so that there is always one person to keep an eye on your pet and keep you company at the same time.
